Antique Javanese Joglo Centre Beam

£3,250.00

Antique Javanese Joglo Ceiling Beam, beautifully carved with lots of details and iron ring in the centre. Approx. 2150 mm long plus 200 mm long joints on each end.

The Joglo is the four-posted architectural centre piece of a traditional Javanese home.  The rest of the house is built around this meeting place. It appears to be free standing but it is structurally integrated into the house. A second roof above the roof of the Joglo protects the home from the elements.

In poorer areas common woods are used, they are smaller and mostly un-carved. In the houses of the wealthier families they used teak,  heavily carved and bigger beams. An oil lamp would hang from the iron ring in the middle of the centre beam.

The word Joglo also refers to a specific shape of roof a Javanese house.
