A lovely set of four oak Victorian dining chairs for reupholstery. We date these dining chairs to the second half of the 19th century.
The chairs sit on two downward tapered, turned legs at the front and two oblong section backwards splayed legs at the rear.
The rear legs continue up with a slight backward curve to form the backrest side supports. The backrests feature very attractive carved detail with scroll finials.
The chairs are upholstered in a dark pastel coloured heavy woven material. The material is a little worn and is missing its braid, and as such the chairs would benefit from reupholstery.
The chairs are 39.5″ (100cm) high with a backrest height of 21″ (53cm), a seat height of 19″ (49cm), a width of 18.5″ (47cm) and a seat depth of 17″ (43cm).
This lovely set of Victorian oak dining chairs remains in very good solid condition with only very minor surface markings commensurate with age and usage, including some minor indentations and some slight wear to some of the edges. One of the castors is missing its little brass ring where it joins the leg.
This remains a very stylish and elegant set of oak dining chairs which could provide an ideal project for someone with the requisite skills. With sympathetic reupholstery they will continue to provide good service for many years to come.
