Attractive Antique Victorian Saxony Style Spinning Wheel

£345.00

A beautiful antique spinning wheel. We date this spinning wheel to the mid/late 19th century.

Given by the newspaper cut-out found in the small compartment on the frame it is believed to be a Scottish crofters’ spinning wheel.

The frame is nicely constructed with the maidens which hold the flyer ending in two elegant finials and a small compartment with lid between the mother of all and the flywheel.

The single treadle wheel has 16 bobbin turned spokes and two well-turned flywheel supports.

The spinning wheel has a height of 32.5″ (82cm), a width of 31.5″ (80cm) and a depth of 20.5″ (52cm). The wheel has a diameter of 17.5” (45cm).

This spinning wheel has a lovely warm dark brown colour and patination gained through age.

This spinning wheel remains in good condition with minor surface markings commensurate with age and usage, including a few indentations to some of the edges, especially the wheel and finials. There are some minor marks around the legs from past use, an indent on the treadle and the lid. One flyer-hook is missing and signs of repair show on the footman.

Even though it is not in working order, this spinning wheel remains a very beautiful decorative item. It will continue to provide good service for many years to come.
