A lovely Scottish antique mahogany chest of drawers. We date this chest of drawers to the second half of the 19th century.
The chest of drawers comes in a large single section, please be aware regarding access etc…
The plain plinth base with round protruding front corners sits above turned legs. The chest sits firmly on the base.
The chest consists of a secret large ogee front top drawer over three deep ogee front short drawers over a base chest of three graduated long drawers.
The drawers are fitted with locks (no key is supplied but a suitable replacement should be easily obtainable if required).
The top drawer and deep drawers protrude beyond the base chest drawers and are opened from underneath.
The drawer fronts have been veneered with well matched finely figured grain mahogany.
The lower chest drawer fronts are veneered with well matched finely figured mahogany with the drawer edges outlined with cock beading. The drawers are fitted with pairs of large turned wood handles.
The side rails have well carved scroll top columns which sit under the ogee front side rails and over the plinth front projections.
The chest of drawers has a height of 56″ (142cm) a width of 52″ (132cm) and a depth of 24″ (61cm).
This lovely large antique mahogany chest of drawers remains in very good solid condition with only very minor surface markings commensurate with age and usage. There are some small missing pieces of cockbeading around the lower drawers. There are a few small veneer chips and the top surface has a repaired small age split.
This remains a very stylish and elegant large antique Scottish ogee front chest of drawers providing a lot of useful storage space. It will continue to provide good service for many years to come.
