A lovely Victorian oak bookcase cabinet. We date this bookcase cabinet to the second half of the 19th century.
The bookcase cabinet comes in two sections: the bookcase top and the cabinet base.
The bookcase sits on a stepped plinth base. The bookcase would have had small feet originally but these have been removed at some point in the past.
The bookcase has been profusely carved throughout with lion masks, fruit carvings etc…
The front of the top bookcase is of a two panel design with each panel being a side hinged glazed door. The doors are glazed with single glass panes. The right hand door is fitted with a working lock (key supplied). The left hand door is secured with a side mounted lever bolt.
The interior of the top cabinet is fitted with a removable mid mounted full width wooden shelf.
The base section comprises of a pair of drawers over a double side hinged door cupboard.
The drawers are fitted with decorative cast brass drop handles mounted on shapely backplates. The right hand cupboard door is fitted with a working lock (operated by the supplied key).
The interior of the cupboard is fitted with a single removable wood shelf mounted halfway up.
The bookcase cabinet has an overall height of 84″ (213cm), a base cabinet height of 37″ (94cm), a cornice width of 47″ (120cm), a base cabinet width of 48″ (122cm) and a cabinet depth of 19.5″ (50cm). The top bookcase cornice has a depth of 13.5″ (34cm).
The top section of the bookcase has an internal depth of 8.5″ (22cm).
This lovely Victorian oak bookcase cabinet remains in very good solid condition with only minor surface markings commensurate with age and usage, including some minor indentations and wear to the finish. There is a bit of wear to some of the edges and there is a small indentation to the outer left hand side of the cornice.
This remains a very stylish and elegant large tall Victorian oak bookcase cabinet which will continue to provide good service for many years to come.
