A lovely small Edwardian mahogany card table. We date this table to the very early 20th century.
The table sits on four slender queen anne style carved cabriole legs. The legs are braced with a very ornate cross frame. The frame has attractive upward and downward turned finials.
The main table top has a double thickness. The top section is formed from four triangular shaped sections which swivel. When the top is slightly swivelled there is a mechanism which slightly raises one of the triangular leaves, which allows the leaf to be folded out. The top is then fully swivelled and the other leaves are folded out to reveal the fitted interior. The centre is lined with green baize, and each triangular section has a scooped dish to hold betting chips etc.
The table is fitted with a drawer at the front. The drawer is fitted with a pair of decorative brass drop handles.
The table has an open height of 27.5″ (70cm), an open width and depth of 30″ (76cm).
With the leaves closed the table is 28″ (71cm) high by 21″ (53cm) wide by 21″ (53cm) deep.
This lovely Edwardian mahogany envelope card table remains in very good solid condition with only very minor surface markings commensurate with age and usage, including some marks, light scratches and indentations to the top surface. The green baize has some light fading where the leaves fold in.
This remains a very stylish and elegant small Edwardian mahogany envelope card table. It will continue to provide good service for many years to come.
